Hi there,

I had one internal wart (and several external) when I was diagnosed with HPV. More than one physician I spoke to basically told me that the jury was out as to whether or not to treat internal warts, as it could cause scarring (and later, painful intercourse); the treatment simply wasn't justified. Basically, it is up to you and your doctor, but trust me, after you calm down (I freaked out for about a month after I was diagnosed), you will realize they aren't as terrible as we make them out to be to ourselves.

Warts aren't supposed to feel pain or anything...not to belittle your feelings, but perhaps you are imagining it? I don't know how recently you were diagnosed, but I know when I was diagnosed, I was ridiculously paranoid.

Warts large or small, internal or external, are particularly devastating for women. I'm sorry you are going through this. I know that hearing that 75% of the adult population has it doesn't help (rather, it made me feel more unlucky that I was one of the few who had actual symptoms). You aren't gross, and it's not your fault. I hope that you can talk to a health care provider who can answer your questions and calm your fears.

Good luck, whatever you decide.
References :
RN, personal experience.

When I first found out I had them the doctor did cryosurgery. After the procedure there was cramping. It wasn't until after that I was told they are a virus and never go away. I wouldn't have had the procedure if I knew that. With time the outbreak will subside, but they do come back. I don't think the procedure is worth it for two spots. They should be biopsied to make sure they aren't cancer. I had more outbreaks in the beginning and very few now. The spot will be a little sore or itchy but goes away after a couple of weeks. It is an STD and contagious. You are also susceptible to outside warts, they are the same thing. Years later I can have a clean pap, but I still have the virus. Ask your doctor if there is a cream you can try. If not they will eventually go away.
